Please try again After working out, where he arrived home around 912 The well-loved legal scholar never made it out of the car. Two hired killers saw to that. Cops say this trio was paid $100,000 to kill Dan Markel. Markel had been embroiled in a bitter custody fight with his ex-wife, Wendi Adelson. She wanted to move their kids to South Florida where her family lived. He wasn’t buying it. And he paid with his life. On Friday, Katherine Magbanua, 37, went down in flames for her role in the murder-for-hire plot and was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. She was convicted in May of first-degree murder. This advertisement has not loaded yet, but your article continues below. We apologize, but this video has failed to load. Cops say she orchestrated the murder with her baby daddy and his buddy at the behest of Adelson’s family, including her former boyfriend, Dr. Charlie Adelson, Wendi’s dentist brother. Prosecutors say she was the go-between for the brazen hit. Her lawyer said the condemned woman “thinks about Dan Markel every single day. She does think about his kids every single day.” Her legal eagle added that Magbanua hopes everyone involved in the twisted plot is “brought to justice.” From the start, cops named Charlie Adelson and his mother Donna as persons of interest in the Markel death plot. Magbanua had worked in the family dental office and carried on a torrid affair with Charlie. Team Adelson, from upper left, Harvey, Donna, Charlie and Wendi. Were they behind the murder? Shooters Sigfredo Garcia and Luis Rivera were convicted for their roles in 2019. This advertisement has not loaded yet, but your article continues below. Markel’s friends told me in May when Magbanua was convicted that pals, colleagues and his family had been waiting a long time for answers — although they always suspected what those answers would be. Adelson, 45, was arrested in April after he was indicted by a grand jury. The deadly dentist was charged with first-degree murder, conspiracy to commit murder and solicitation to commit murder. He has pleaded not guilty. Markel’s family told Fox News in a statement that Magbanua’s sentencing “marks another important step toward accountability and justice.” They wrote “Dan Markel was brutally murdered more than eight years ago. We are grateful for the efforts of law enforcement and the State Attorney’s Office in advancing the criminal case against Charles Adelson and in continuing to pursue all those responsible for Dan’s murder.” This advertisement has not loaded yet, but your article continues below. Good-time Charlie Cops say Dr. Charles Adelson arranged his sisters husbands murder. LEON COUNTY PROSECUTOR The strands of murderous intent were eventually pulled together at Magbanua’s murder trial. Prosecutors played dozens of wiretaps and other clandestinely recorded videos gathered by the FBI. Laid bare was a tidal wave of communication between Charlie, his mother Donna, his gal pal and the hitmen. Most damning was the so-called Dolce Vita tape — recorded at a Miami eatery of the same name. In the tape, Charlie Adelson and Magbanua discussed in code how to manage an undercover fed who was trying to shake them down. Cops say the fed approached Mama Adelson on a Broward County street and presented her with a newspaper story about Markel. On the newsprint was “$5,000” and a phone number. The lovebirds couldn’t decide whether the blackmailer was a crook or a cop. That info found its way to the killers. And Dan Markel sadly discovered what countless other men and women have experienced since time immemorial. Divorce can be very deadly. Take a high-strung, vengeful ex, an angry wealthy family determined to sever one parent from their children and it’s a recipe for murder. bhunter HunterTOSun Comments Postmedia is committed to maintaining a lively but civil forum for discussion and encourage all readers to share their views on our articles.
